How to Read a Meyer Serial Number
Locating the Serial Number
On all Meyer saddles, the serial number is located underneath the left sweat flap, right below the panel.
Seat Size
The seat size of the saddle is indicated on the line above the serial number.
Meyer seat sizes range from 15" to 18.5".
The saddle pictured here has a 17" seat.
Tree Width
The standard tree width for Meyer saddles is medium/medium-wide (A). If the saddle is built on a standard tree, there will not be a tree size stamped on the flap. If the saddle is built on a tree that is wider than the standard, it will be stamped next to the seat size.
Tree Sizes:
A = Medium/medium-wide
AO/AO1 = wide
AO2 = Extra wide
*Note: custom tree widths are also available; if a saddle is built on a custom tree, it will be noted on the flap*
This saddle has a wide tree.
Seat Depth
The first digit of the serial number indicates the seat depth of the saddle.
Available seat depths are as follows:
1 = Flat (jump)
2 = Semi-deep (jump)
3 = Deep (jump)
4 = Semi-deep (dressage)
5 = Deep (dressage)
6 = Flat (cross)
7 = Semi-deep (cross)
8 = Deep (cross)
The saddle pictured has a deep seat.
Flap Length
The 2nd digit of the serial number indicates the flap length of the saddle.
Meyer saddles are available in 6 different flap lengths:
1 = Children's
2 = Very short
3 = Short
4 = Standard
5 = Long
6 = Very long
Knee Roll Fill
The 3rd digit of the serial number indicates the fill of the knee roll.
Meyer offers 3 different volumes of knee roll fill:
1 = Thin
2 = Classic
3 = Thick
This saddle has a thicker knee roll fill.
Year of Manufacture
The year of manufacture is indicated by digits 4-5 of the serial number.
This saddle was manufactured in 2024.
Saddle Number
Digits 6-9 of the serial number indicate the saddle's personal ID number. This number is used by the saddler to keep track of each individual saddle.
Flap Position
If the saddle is built with a classic (C) flap, there will be no flap position stamped on the flap, as this is considered "standard" flap position. If the flap position deviates from the standard, it will be indicated by the first letter underneath the serial number.
Flap positions are as follows:
H = Hunter
C = Classic *not stamped*
A = Advanced (forward)
AA = Double advanced (extra forward)
The saddle pictured has an advanced (A) flap.
Additional Specifications
Depending on the build of your saddle, there may be additional specifications noted on the flap. Common additional stamp codes are as follows:
D = Double calf
C = Carbon (Act 2)
Serial # starting with M = Metamorphose
*Note: a "C" stamp has nothing to do with flap position (classic flaps are not stamped)! If your saddle is stamped with a "C", this always refers to "carbon", which means that the saddle is an Act 2 model*
