Article: How to Read an Equipe Stamp

How to Read an Equipe Stamp

Step 1

Locating the Serial Number

On all Equipe saddles, the serial number is located underneath the left sweat flap, right below the panel.

Step 2

Seat Size

The first 2-3 digits of the serial number indicate the seat size of the saddle. Equipe seat sizes range from 14.5" to 18".

The saddle pictured has a 17.5" seat.

Step 3

Flap Specifications

The 3rd or 4th digit of the serial number indicates the flap length of the saddle.

Equipe saddles come in 4 flap lengths:

K=short
N=normal
L=long
XL=extra long

*Note: if the saddle is stamped with an "SW" after the saddle code this indicates a more forward flap position*

The saddle pictured has a normal flap.

Step 4

Saddle Number

Digits 5-8 of the serial number indicate the saddle's personal ID number.This number is used by the saddler to keep track of each individual saddle.

Step 5

Date of Manufacture

Digits 9-12 of the serial number indicate the saddle's date of manufacture (MM/YY).

The saddle pictured was manufactured in July 2024.

Step 6

Saddle Model

The saddle model is indicated by a combination of letters on the flap. Equipe makes a wide variety of saddle models, each designed to fit a specific equine morphology.

The last letters indicate the leather type.

SP = Special (Calf)
GRP = Grip

The saddle pictured is an Equipe Allegra Special.

Step 7

Panel

Equipe saddles can be built with two types of panel: foam and PerfEQto (hybrid wool/foam).

The thickness of foam is indicated on the stamp following the model. Panels marked M are standard panels.

The saddle pictured has standard panels.

Step 8

Tree Width

The standard tree width for an Equipe saddle is medium (M). If the saddle is built wider than standard, it will be stamped with a "+" sign, followed by the number of centimetres wider than medium the saddle is. On the contrary, if a saddle is built narrower than standard, it will be stamped with a "-" sign, followed by the number of centimetres narrower than medium the saddle is.

The most common widths are:

-1.5=narrow
+1.5=medium wide
+2.5=wide
+3.5=extra wide

The saddle pictured has a MW tree.
